Welcome to my blog!

This is my blog to created to share my decorating ideas. I'm no expert, so some creations may be my amateur version of experts'. I created this to help inspire other people like me who have big ideas and little know-how. This is to encourage you to believe that you can do whatever you dream of.

I also share about my life as a redhead with a lot of opinions, my experiences as a twenty-something year old nearing thirty, and the whole crazy wedding planning process for my fiance and me.

Santa Came!

Santa came (aka my parents)!! And brought me a bigger tree (now I need ornaments...)! And they brought presents to go under it!!

It's Christmas!

It's Christmas! Well, almost. It's my favorite time of the year and the most romantic! Here is a picture of my tiny tree. :)

Christmas Lights

Ok, I could easily post about Christmas the whole month of December. I will try not to turn my decorating blog into a Christmas blog. (Key word was try). I was sooo excited to decorate my new house with Christmas lights! I was not about the climb on the roof, so I settled for decorating the door. Here's a little pic. Keep in mind all my pictures are taken on a very outdated phone, so the quality is crap.

Curtain Project

September 21, 2011

I wanted to spruce up a boring window, but curtains are so expensive, and I knew as soon as I invested in a pair, I would find another pair that I liked better or I would already be tired of them. So I set out to create my own on a budget. Here is a picture of my window before:
(Keep in mind, I took this picture after I put up the curtains, so I took them down and set them on the desk. Looks messy!)

I plan on moving soon and wasn't totally set on the curtain idea, so I didn't want to put holes in my walls for the curtain rod. Rather than drilling big holes in my walls, I hung lightweight curtains on a wire with pushpins. Here is a close- up of the pushpin/wire thing:

Looks terrible, right? Don't worry. . .I have a plan! This part will be covered.

Here is the final product:

Living Room Makeover

August 26, 2011
I wanted to create a formal living room look on a budget. I looked at several magazines for inspiration. I found one look that I liked at Ballard Designs. Here is my inspiration:

I wanted the dark walls, white sheer curtains, elegant mirror, and a set of prints. As I mentioned earlier, I was on a budget. I painted my walls a dark grey, found a mirror at a thrift store, and (with a little help) made my own prints.  I bought cheap silver frames and white matte borders from Micheal's. I was lucky enough to get a local artist to draw two sketches of horses for me. I find horses to be beautiful animals and much more inspirational than seashells. I once attempted to draw two other pictures to fill my other frames, but this was a failed attempt, so I filled the two other frames with scrapbooking paper. I added my own accessories to my mantle for a finishing touch. Here is my version:
